Officially Summer

Today I turned in my keys and left my teaching site after being there for 3 years. It has been an amazing place to work. The thing I will miss the most (besides the kids!) is the dedicated team that has become my extended family. I know that I'll keep in touch with them, but it will be different not seeing them everyday at work. We laughed, ugly-cried, and made a difference together. My peers have helped me grow into the teacher I am today. They have truly shown me that we are stronger together. I know that collaborating with them has made me a better and more effective teacher. I started my journey into project based learning here, grew to love decimals and fractions, and have so many experiences that I will take with me to my new site.

I feel excited for my new journey as I learn new things and meet new people. I have already packed my summer full of professional development. I will be returning to the UC Davis History Project as a teacher leader and will get to present a lesson to other teachers at later seminars. History is a passion that I love to bring into the classroom. My husband and I are planning a trip to London this summer. I can't wait to explore the palaces and places that I teach my students about every year.

It will be fascinating to gather pictures in London to show my students next year what actually looks like.

This summer I plan to pack as much reading in as possible. Most recently I finished reading "Lead Like a Pirate" by Shelley Burgess and Beth Houf. My husband brought it home and I read it in one sitting. This text is a guide for principals on how to be a great leader. I'm not really the target audience, but I really enjoyed reading it. I knew I had an amazing principal at my previous site, but it was unreal how everything mentioned in this book was something she does so well. I recently learned that there is a book by the same authors targeting teachers, so I'll have to pick up that book and read it too. It is called, "Teach Like a Pirate." I'll close this entry with a quote that I have been really inspired by lately:  Image result for edison quotes
