Volume, Science Expo, and Testing

Structures built by students that they calculated the volume for
At my school site we are lucky enough to have an amazing math specialist. He recently led a three day lesson on volume with my class. It was amazing to see how he had students working hands-on to explore concepts of volume. I am grateful that I have such a fantastic resource not only for my students, but for me to learn from .

Students had to show their calculations

I love how no two structures were the same

Some students created houses

Even with all the creativity, the whole activity was focused on the math and student exploration

Early finishers got to decorate their structures

There was a component of collaboration throughout the project as well

Each day of testing I had positive messages posted for my students

I made water bottle labels for the students with positive messages

I made sure to give them some snacks to keep them going during testing

Some of my students love unicorns, so I had to make unicorn labels

Students at the science expo collaborate to solve a problem

Students watch as the water spins in the glass bottle

Students listen as a scientist explains a concept

Students get a chance to interact with technology

Every station was different and exciting!

A favorite station was the robotics station. Students were so focused!

As we get closer to our field trip to the science center we are incorporating art lessons on the topic

Students could choose any background they wanted for their rocket
These art pieces were done using oil pastels. Students loved how bright the colors were.
