Back to the Classroom!
I am overjoyed to return to the classroom after my battle with cancer. I have missed four months this year to two surgeries and recovery. During that time, my colleagues have been supportive and kept me connected to our school community. Weekly visits, cards, gifts, and kind words allowed me to feel included and remembered in a very difficult time.
Now that I am back I am using the standards to make sure that my lessons are streamlined and going to have the most impact. It is wonderful to see my students and their families are doing well and are glad to have me back!
I'm looking forward to having students read informational articles about the Taino people as well as the books Morning Girl and Encounter so that they can ultimately compare and contrast the Taino people to Columbus's perception of the Taino people. They will be working to write multi-paragraph essays to decide if we should celebrate Columbus Day or perhaps change this to Indigenous Peoples Day.

I will share my pictures of the bulletin boards, student work, and experiences as we get into this unit.
